Life in Lucknow was a lot different compared to the one we had been used to in Ulhasnagar where I was born. It was not only a bigger city that the earlier, it was also filled with opportunities for anyone who was willing to grab them.
Though my elder siblings were studying in a Sindhi school which would be below average by today’s standards, my parents decided to educate me in a missionary school. And I started my schooling in St. Cathedral School. Even though my parents did their best effort, I just could not sustain in that school after a year and was put into a Sindhi school along with my siblings. From here began my struggle with English as a language since we did not have it as a subject in the school. Math was another subject that was not an important part of that school’s curriculum and it became another subject that I struggled with for a large part of my life.
This of course did not hinder the innate leadership capabilities that were nurtured in me and that later led me to starting my first company in 1981. Just goes on to show that if you have the determination and are willing to put in the hard work, nothing can stop you from achieving success in life.
